James Edward(Jim) Hoffmeister, 51, of Hockley, Texas passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He was born on June 6, 1967 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Ulrich(Dutch) and Sandra Hoffmeister.
Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman all of his life. He was also a Mechanic at John Eagle Honda for over 25 years and was well known for fixing just about any vehicle you put in front of him. He met the love of his life, Karen while working at John Eagle Honda in 2001 and later married on July 26, 2003. Jim often brought his daughters and son to work and was always eager to show them what he was working on and how he was fixing it. Jim was also a Dodge truck lover, and drove them his whole life. Jim loved to BBQ and could cook you the meanest brisket you've ever had. He also volunteered with his wife, Karen on the rodeo express team with Rodeo Houston for many years; even while sick. As well as volunteering as an assistant coach for his son's pee wee football team where he enjoyed cheering him on and teaching him how to play.
Jim's journey began in March of 2013 when he was diagnosed with Large B Cell Lymphoma. Jim underwent chemotherapy for 6 months and went into remission for a year. After the year was over, Jim went in for a check-up and to his surprise, the cancer had returned as follicular lymphoma. Jim proceeded to go through 4 rounds of chemo and afterwards received a bone marrow transplant in November of 2015 to rid the cancer from ever returning. Since then, Jim had multiple complications with the transplant. In the years since, he had battled many cases of Graft Vs. Host disease. In order to treat the GVHD, doctors treated him with medications to prevent it and steroids to help strengthen his body and immune system. In doing so, these medications also significantly suppressed his immune system so much so, that Jim was sick almost constantly. The simplest germ would make him sick with an infection. Jim suffered through many hospital visits and fought for many many years and came out on top almost every time. He was a fighter. This time was a different story. He had been in the hospital for almost 3 consistent months as well as in the ICU. His body was weak, his body failing. Jim fought the good fight until he just couldn't fight anymore.
Jim is preceded in death by his grandparents Bill & Mary Matthews and a grand baby. He is survived by his mother, Sandra Hoffmeister; his father, Ulrich(Dutch) Hoffmeister, His wife, Karen; as well as his daughters, Katie, grandson Drew; Kimberly, Karissa, and son Michael; his brother; Steven Hoffmeister, and wife Monica Hoffmeister, Brother-In Law, David and wife Jessica; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
