Wayne Thompson
June 11, 1930 - January 19, 2018

Harold Wayne Thompson, a longtime resident of Spring, Texas died Friday January 19, 2018. Wayne was born to Sypert and Lottie Mae Latham Thompson on June 11, 1930 on a farm in the Sunshine Community near Holland, Texas. He grew up in and around Holland and graduated from Holland High School in 1947. Wayne attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas on a football scholarship as a kicker. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean War where he flew weather reconnaissance missions and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the service, Wayne joined Brown and Root Inc. in Houston as an electrician’s helper. He retired in 1992 as General Manager after 35 years of service.

Wayne was a Master Mason and member of the Zerne Masonic Lodge #615 AF&AM in Holland for over 50 years, Arabia Shrine Temple and 320 Scottish Rite Mason in Houston. He was a member of Spring Woods Methodist Church in Houston.

Wayne was a devoted husband, father and provider. He enjoyed, and was gifted, with working with his hands. He remodeled his home in Spring, his parent’s house in Holland and built and repaired barns, sheds and fences on his farm in Holland. There were not many projects he wasn’t able or willing to tackle. Up to his death he was actively working on refurbishing a windmill, a Ford 8N tractor and his home plumbing.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Deloras Elaine Liles Thompson, his wife of 56 years and by two sons, Troy Neal Thompson and wife Kelly of Houston, Texas, Roy Wayne Thompson and wife Robin of Pasadena, Texas. He is survived by five grandchildren: Nathan, Hayden, Madelyne, Leah and Olivia.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Spring Woods Methodist Church, 1711 Cypress Creek Pkwy, Houston, Texas 77090 or the Mayfield Library and Museum, P.O. Box 217, Holland, Texas 76534.
