Josephine Rose Ruggeri Simeck, 89, of Magnolia, Texas, formerly of Endwell, New York, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, September 4, 2017.
Josie was born in Binghamton, NY to Italian immigrants, Paolo and Maria Ruggeri. Her first language was Italian, which was always spoken in the home. She graduated from Binghamton North Senior High School in 1946. In 1948 she married James J. Simeck. Their 3 children were born in Binghamton.
Through the years Josie enjoyed a variety of arts and crafts. Her talents included knitting, needlepoint, painting and decorating, with a real expertise as a seamstress and quilter. She created many beautiful family heirlooms.
Josie had a lively personality and a contagious laugh. She possessed a fierce love of family and friends, and cherished those relationships.
Josie is survived by her husband of 69 years, James; brother-in-law Joseph Simeck, sister Charlene Lasky, son Jim Simeck and his wife Jody of Lincoln, NE, daughter Ellen Greene and husband Rick of Lakewood, PA, daughter Marie Norgeot and husband Pete of Magnolia, TX; in addition 7 grand children, JD (Andrea) Simeck, Josie Simeck, Jenny (Dave) Dyson, Morgan (Becca Rae) Greene, Michelle (Brett) Hopkins, Nicky (Nicole) Portela, Casey Portela; 4 step-grandchildren David Greene, Cynthia (Steve) Henderson, Peter Norgeot, Emily Norgeot; 12 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends, especially Thelma Jackson and Teddy Humphries of The Woodlands, TX.
She is preceeded in death by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law Carmella and Paul Buonomo, twin sister and brother-in-law Natalie and Joe Green, brother and sister-in-law Agatino and Lucille Ruggeri.
The family extends sincerest thanks to Gabriella, Mohammed and Ortencia at Olive Grove Assisted Living in Magnolia. We are grateful for their gentle kindness and compassionate care. Special love and thanks to Wanda Simmons. After caring for Josie for many months, we consider Wanda a member of our family.
